What are haemorrhoids, and why do we get them?
Haemorrhoids (also known as piles) are swollen veins in the anus and lower rectum.2
Haemorrhoids are when the veins become swollen or irritated, usually caused by extra pressure on these veins. This can lead to varying levels of pain and discomfort and can appear both internally and externally depending on the stage.3
Haemorrhoids are classified into four grades based on the location and severity. Grades I and II can often be managed with over-the-counter or conservative treatments. If Grade II symptoms persist, a healthcare professional may recommend minimally invasive, in-office procedures. For Grades III and IV, please consult your doctor for professional medical guidance.11
